Help For Heroes - Update

Members of Markinch Parish Church have given the Help for Heroes charity a boost of £430 (edit - now £472.00). The church hosted a coffee morning to raise the money. Church members and friends also gave £304 from the Remembrance Sunday retiring collection to the Earl Haig Fund (Scotland).

Our minister, Rev Alex Forsyth said, “It was great to see so many support Help for Heroes and the Earl Haig Fund.  These charities support our injured and wounded and provide practical help to those servicemen and women hurt in the line of duty in past conflicts and the current conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.  Many thanks to all who made the effort and all who helped on the day.”

The picture shows Rev Forsyth, and Mrs Tracy Thomson, who organised the coffee morning, accepting a donation of a House of Commons Bottle of Whisky from Lindsay Roy MP.

Remembrance Day - Kirkcaldy Presbytery Prayer Promoters leaflet

At the Kirkcaldy Presbytery Prayer Promoters’ meeting on 11th November 2009, we will spend time thinking, talking and praying for all the servicemen and women who are overseas putting your lives at risk to uphold justice and strive for a more peace-filled world.

We want you to know that, though we may not know you personally, we hold you and your families close to our hearts. In this year of homecoming we pray that you return home safely to your loved ones in the knowledge that you have made a real difference … that you have helped to protect the weak and give hope to those who felt abandoned and helpless.

We salute you.

Dr Bob’s 2009 Walk for Maggie’s Centres

One of our Elders, Dr Bob Grant has successfully completed a 7-day, 100-mile “Hop Across Scotland”. He was accompanied on the walk by his wife Joan who is also an Elder of our church and other family members and friends. What is remarkable is that Bob lost his right leg to cancer in 2002 and completed the walk on one leg and crutches!
He started on 17th September at Bowling in West Dunbartonshire and followed the Forth & Clyde Canal to Falkirk, then the Union Canal to Edinburgh, visiting the Maggie’s Centres in Edinburgh and Glasgow en route. He then travelled over the Forth Road Bridge and along the Fife Coastal Path ending at the Maggie’s Centre in Kirkcaldy around 5pm on  Wednesday 23rd September. His target is to raise £16000.00 for Maggie’s Centres.
For more information about Bob and photographs of his recent walk go to www.bobswalk.co.uk
Sponsor forms are still available locally and you can also donate online at www.justgiving.com/bobswalk2009

New feature - Add your comments to a post

Up until now, visitors have not been able to add their own comments to any of the posts. We have decided to open this feature up to our visitors so we can hear what they have to say about the blog.

All comments will be moderated by the Administrator so there may be a delay in them actually appearing on the site. You will have to supply a name and an email address to post a comment and there is also a simple “math test” to prevent automated postings.

We will try this for a short time to see if there is any interest in this feature.

amazon.co.uk - Associate Store

During his sermons, Rev. Alex Forsyth often mentions books and DVD’s that he thinks are definitely worth reading or watching. Many of you have acted on these recommendations and bought the books.
If you were to use the special links to the Amazon store from our own church website or from the sidebar menu on this page, you will find Alex’s recommendations all listed together in our “aStore”. If you purchase any of these (or any other Amazon product) using this method, the church will receive a commission on each sale which will go directly to church funds.

About This Site

This is the place to come for the latest church news. It will be updated by a number of people with interests in the various groups within our own church and the wider church.
